Huntington Ingalls Industries announced its Ingalls Shipbuilding division will host the first “Ingalls 5K on the Causeway” on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Singing River Island with all proceeds going to Special Olympics of Mississippi.
“We are excited to be hosting this race, and it’s a great way to promote fitness and healthy living,” said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls’ vice president of human resources and administration. “We’ve got a great course mapped on the causeway to Singing River Island, and we’re looking forward to a big turnout. There are a lot of employees and local companies working together to make this a great race, and all the money we raise will go to Special Olympics of Mississippi. This is our first race, and we expect to make this an annual event.”
The 5K begins at 9 a.m., with a one-mile fun run immediately following the race. Registration for the race is $15 before Oct. 15 and $20 after that date and on race day. The registration fee includes a T-shirt. For children under 12, the registration fee is $7. The course has been certified as a 5K fast and flat course. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and females, as well as the top three male and females in various age groups.
